The conveyors that carry sludge from the sludge dewatering machines to the container shed were upgraded in 2016. The conveyor system constitutes a bottleneck that causes the shutdown of the sludge dewatering machines and sludge treatment at the treatment plant when it is offline. The upgrade included the fabrication of new drive systems for the conveyors with a new location for the bearings enabling easy access for the performance of maintenance works. An identical upgrade was performed for the system of tensioning wires of the conveyor belts. The conveyor belts were also replaced and new transmissions and drums were installed. A new control panel was built for the conveyors enabling the operator in the field to respond more quickly to malfunctions. Redundancy has been provided in the conveyor system enabling the conveyance of sludge even when a malfunction occurs in one of the conveyors.
