An upgrade was performed in 2016 of the air-conditioning system in the electrical rooms. The electrical rooms contain expensive equipment that is sensitive to high temperature. Consequently, new air-conditioners were purchased and existing air-conditioners were refurbished. Redundancy has been provided so that when one air-conditioning unit is off-line, another unit is available for backup. Following refurbishment, a serviceable temperature of 24°C has been achieved in all of the rooms. In addition, a temperature control system has been installed in the electrical rooms that reports continuously on actual temperatures. Moreover, the roofs of the electrical rooms have been waterproofed, the rooms have been painted and cleaned, electrical ducts have been refurbished and insulated, and torn electrical cables have been removed. Maintenance of temperatures in the electrical rooms is highly important and is intended to reduce costs in the refurbishment and renewal of electrical and communications infrastructure. A tender was prepared in 2016 for maintenance of the air-conditioners including a special specification that defines the contractor’s work and strict compliance with malfunction repair schedules.
